Math Stations & A Freebie

Hey there buddies! I wanted to finally share with you what I do for my math stations!!  Yes, I said it… MATH STATIONS!!!  Not tubs, not Café (although I love the concept).  We do Debbie Diller’s Math Work Stations and LOVE IT!!!

So, here’s how it goes.  I have 13 students in my class this year (I know, you can be jealous!)  So, I only need 6 math stations to have 2-3 students at each one.  This is what our math shelf looks like.

Very easy to use, and the kids can clearly see what station they need to grab.
Here’s how the students know which station they are at for that given day.

It’s just a half size poster board with sticks that I can change out easily year to year.
I have it on  my dry erase board right now because I’m out of wall space and I can take it off if I need the board for something else.  Smile
Here’s a close up.

I usually will dismiss them by group and let them get situated before I call the next group to get their “tub” and go to their designated area, which looks like this.

Around the room are the number cards that match the numbers on the math tubs and that’s where they take their tub to begin.  I strategically have number sense games or activities near a 100’s chart.  And anything they need to use a pocket chart for is always at station 1 because that’s where my mini pocket chart is set up.  If you want those number cards click here to go this {link}.
During this time I usually have 1 game or activity in each tub and one station is for Ipad games.  I will pull back a group or individuals during this time for extra assistance or whatever is necessary.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE this system!
When their time is up I have them clean up and put their math tub back on the shelf.

In the beginning of the year my students were not sure where to put the tubs back so I did this.

I just printed an additional number card to tape to the shelf space that the tub should be in, very clear and simple.

  4. Mandi, I am thrilled to have found your blog! I teach kindergarten at a Christian school, too. And, I don't hate you...I have 9 students this year. It sounds like a dream, but anyone who has taught a small class knows the challenges that go along with the number.

I'm hopping over to TpT to follow you there, also!
